COVID-19 has presented the most significant disruption the United States has faced in more than a century.
Over 100,000 small businesses have closed forever.
The average revenue for the rest is down more than 20%.
As we head into another devastating wave of the pandemic along with a new round of shutdowns and public health guidance, businesses are having to completely redesign their products and services in order to survive. Unfortunately, many don’t have the skills or emotional capacity to do so. Stressed out and overwhelmed, too many are hunkered down, just hoping things will return to normal.
Many micro-businesses begin with a talent for a particular product or service but lack the mindset and foundational business knowledge needed to grow and thrive, particularly during periods of disruption. While there are many business courses available, we focus on increasing this critical knowledge in both the business owner and their employees. We believe a business is only as agile as all the employees in it—and this distinction is what enables businesses to push past previous barriers and become the economic engine of their community.
Work for Humanity, in collaboration with the Greater Ocala Community Development Corporation, will offer a blend of online education, training, and coaching that helps employers and employees develop the skills they need to drive business growth and create good jobs for these diverse communities. Our Bounce Forward Pilot gives small businesses the confidence and know-how to pivot and build their businesses back better in just six weeks. As revenue grows from the new products, services, and markets developed in our program, owners are able to raise the salaries of the workers that helped make it happen. In addition to saving jobs by helping small businesses pivot in response to COVID, we help transform low-wage jobs into higher-wage jobs in real time.
